Why I Took the Pledge

What I love about running is the purity of a footrace and the respect you have for those around you because you know they’ve had to put in months, sometimes years of training (sowing) before reaping the benefits in a race. Knowing the sacrifices, the dedication, the life struggles, the injuries, my competitors have had to overcome to get to a race I don’t see how I could look at them in the eyes and congratulate them if I chose to cheat them. I don’t see how I could lie to myself and to people daily. It would take all of the joy of racing for me.
